2N1893 Transistor Explained / Description:
2N1893 is a medium power transistor available in TO-39 package. It is designed to be used in oscillators, amplifiers, and switching applications. The transistor has three leads and the pin layout is as follows: the first lead is Emitter, Second is Base and the third is Collector.
The maximum collector of the transistor is 500mA, max collector-emitter voltage is 80V, max collector-base voltage is 120V, max emitter-base voltage is 7V and total power dissipation is 800mW.
The transistor has some good features which make it ideal to use in a wide variety of applications such as the DC current gain of 40 to 120 makes it ideal to use in amplification applications. With a continuous collector current of up to 500mA, this transistor can be used to drive variety of different loads as a switch such as LEDs, relays, ICs, power transistors, etc.

Safe Operating Guidelines:
Here are some guidelines for using the transistor safely:
- Do not drive the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and stay at least 20% below from these absolute maximum ratings.
- So according to the above guidelines, the max collector-emitter voltage (VCEO) of the transistor is 80V but according to the 20% rule mentioned above, we will not go above 64V.
- The maximum collector current of the transistor is 500mA but we will not drive load of more than 400mA.
- Moreover, store or operate the transistor within these temperature ranges -65 °C to +200 °C.
