2SA1104 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SA1104 is a high power PNP transistor available in TO-3P package. It is designed to be used in audio amplifiers and general purpose applications. The transistor is having many good features such as high collector-emitter voltage, high power dissipation, high transition frequency and availability of its complementary pair.

The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are as follows: collector-emitter voltage of -120V, collector current of -8A, collector-base voltage is -120V, emitter-base voltage is -6A, collector power dissipation is 80W, junction temperature is 150°C and storage temperature is from -55°C to 150°C.

The transistor is designed to be used in audio and other general purpose applications such as switching, driver circuits, power circuit and more.

How to Use Transistor:

To use it as a switch apply signals to its base through a current limiting resistor, connect the emitter with the positive rail of the circuit and the load will be connected between collector and ground.

A simple amplifier circuit can be made by applying signals to its base through a filter capacitor that can be a electrolytic capacitor between 1uF to 10uF value, connect the emitter pin with the positive rail of the circuit and the output will be available on its collector pin so you can connect a speaker between the collector and ground. A same value electrolytic capacitor should be connected between the collector pin and the speaker. This is a very simple amplifier circuit, for further enhancement of the circuit it will be required to use some passive components.

Applications:

Audio Amplifier Stages

PWM Circuits

Audio Amplifiers

Battery Management Systems

DC to DC Converters

Inductive Load switching

Switching Regulators

Switching load of up to -8A

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Here are some important guidelines to safely operate the transistor.

  • For safe operation always use the transistor 20% below its absolute maximum ratings.
  • Always check pin layout before use.
  • A heatsink should be used with the transistor.
  • Storage and operating temperature range is from -55°C to +150°C.
