2SA1145 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SA1145 is a PNP transistor available in TO-92L package. Looking at the pin layout of the transistor the first pin is Emitter, Collector pin is in the middle and the third pin is Base. The transistor is designed to be used in audio frequency amplifier applications and also contains some good features such as high transition frequency, high collector-emitter voltage and low collector ouput capacitance.

The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are collector-emitter voltage is -150V, collector current is -50mA, collector-base voltage is also -150V, emitter-base voltage is -5V, base current is -5mA, collector power dissipation is 800mW junction temperature is 150°C and storage temperature is -55°C to +150°C.

The transistor is available in two different hFE classifications and can be identified with the help of the alphabet written following its part number. If that alphabet is “O” then the gain will be 80 to 160 and if that alphabet is “Y” then the gain will be 120 to 240.

Where and How to Use This Transistor:

The transistor is designed to be used in audio frequency amp applications but it is not limited to these applications and can also be used in other applications such as switching, RF etc.

Although the physical appearance is different but the using procedure is same as we use any other BJT transistor by applying signal to the Base pin connecting Emitter with the positive rail and getting amplified output from the collector in the amplifier case and driving load with the collector when used as a switch. This is a basic concept to use the transistor, to build a completely working circuit you have to use some passive components.

Applications:

Audio Amplifiers

Preamplifier Circuits

RF Circuits

Switching applications

Variety of General Other Purpose Applications

Safe Operating Guidelines:

To safely operate the transistor always use it at least 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings. For example, the maximum collector current is -50mA but by following the above 20% rule do not exceed 40mA, the maximum collector-emitter voltage is -150V, but we recommend to use not more than -120V. Additionally, the operating temperature should be between -55°C to 150°C.
