2SB817 Transistor Explained / Description:
2SB817 is a silicon power transistor designed for audio amplification and power amplification purposes but the transistor is not limited to these applications only and can be used for many other switching and amplification purposes. It is a PNP transistor and manufactured in TO-3P package. The transistor is capable to drive load of upto to -12A and has also upto -160V collector-base voltage which means it can drive load of -160V. The maximum DC current gain is 200 and the maximum power dissipation is 100W. The transition frequency of the transistor is 15MHz.
2SB817 is capable to provide 60 Watt audio amplification at output. It is mostly used with its NPN complimentary 2SD1047 in audio amplifier output stages.
Where We Can Use it & How to Use:
B817 or 2SB817 can be used for variety of applications, as said above it is primarily designed to use in audio amplifiers output stages and power amplification purposes but it is not limited to these applications and can also be used for switching applications and capable to drive load of upto -12A. Other than that it can also be used in power supplies, battery charger circuits and other related applications.
NPN Complementary:
NPN Complementary of 2SB817 is 2SD1047.

Applications:
High power audio amplifier
Power Supply Applications
Motor Driver Applications
Battery Charger Applications
Inverter Applications
Drive load of up to -12A
Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:
Before using an electronic component it is better to check its maximum ratings and do not design a circuit that uses a component to its maximum capability. Always design a circuit that uses a component 20% below from its maximum ratings. This will increase the life of the component and as a result the life of the device or appliance in which it is used will also increase. The maximum collector current is -12A therefore do not drive load of more than -9.6A. The maximum collector to emitter voltage is -140V therefore do not drive load of more than -112V. Use a suitable heatsink with the transistor and always store or operate the transistor at temperature above -40°C and below +150 °C.
