IRF9630 MOSFET Explained / Description:
IRFP140 is an N channel MOSFET that is manufactured in TO-247 package. The transistor can be used in wide variety of applications as a switch and amplifier. It has many features such as low RDS(on) means it will generate less heat when the load is connected which also prevent power wastage. It is 100% avalanche tested due to which it will perform stable when its drain to source voltage get above its limits. The max operating temperature of 175°C makes it capable to perform stable when the temperature is high. Other features are fast switching, dynamic dv/dt, ease of paralleling etc.
Looking at the specifications of the transistor the maximum drain to source voltage is 100V, max continuous drain current is 31A, max pulsed drain current is 120A and power dissipation of the transistor is 180 Watts.
Before using the transistor one thing should be kept in mind the it is an older version and not recommended for new designs, if you want to use it for new designs then you should use its upgraded version which is IRFP140N.
Where and How to Use:
IRFP140 can be used in variety of circuits such as power supply, solar, automotive, motor drivers, and audio amplifiers. Moreover it can be used in any type of general application that falls under its specs.
Applications:
Controlling loads in electronic circuits
Power supply circuits
Solar charge controllers
Battery Chargers Circuits
Battery Management Systems
Motor Controllers
Audio Amplifiers
Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:
To safely operate the MOSFET follow the below guidelines.
- Always operate the MOSFET under its absolute maximum ratings for better results use atleast 20% below from its max ratings.
- The maximum drain to source voltage of the transistor is 100V therefore do not drive load of more than 80V.
- The maximum continuous drain current is 31A so do not drive load of more than 24.8A.
- Always use a suitable heatsink with the device and store or operate it at temperatures above -55 °C and below +150 °C.
