1N5818 Replacement and Equivalent
All the diodes in 1N581x series are almost the same and the only difference is their voltages but if your load is under 20V then you can also use 1N5817 and 1N5819 in the place of 1N5818. In case your load is above 20V then you can only replace it with 2N5819.
1N5818 Diode Explained / Description
1N5818 is a DO-41 package Schottky diode. This is one of the diode of 1N581x series which also contains other diodes such as 1N5817 and 1N5819. Schottky diodes are different from the rectifier diodes not only in their characteristics but also in their built technology. For example, the junction of the Schottky diode is between a n-type semionductor and the rectifier diodes are simple PN Junction diodes.
The Schottky diodes are designed to use in high frequency circuits, power supplies, battery operated and energy efficient applications, however, the rectifier diodes are designed to rectify AC current and change it to DC, high voltage blocking and to drive high voltage load etc.
Looking at the specs of the diode the max repetitive reverse voltage is 30V, average rectified current is 1A, non repetitive max forward surge current is 25A and max power dissipation is 1.25W.
The diode also has many features such as high surge current, guarantee, fast switching speed, low forward voltage, power efficiency, etc. All these features make this diode to use in circuits that requires fast switching transistors, inverter circuits, converter circuits, RF circuits, voltage doubler or booster applications.
Where We Can Use It
As discussed above these diodes are fast switching diodes and can be used in RF detector circuits, voltage booster circuits, solar circuits, protection, radio and RF circuits, etc.
Applications
Low voltage Rectification
Power Supply Circuits
Battery Chargers Circuits
Voltage Doublers Circuits
Components protection
Blocking Unwanted Voltage in Circuits
Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings
For safe operations do not drive a load of more than 1A and the load voltage should be under 30V. Connect in the right polarity and check the polarity before using in the circuit and always store or operate this device at temperatures above -65 °C and below +125 °C.
