C3203 Transistor Explained / Description
C3203 is a NPN silicon transistor available in TO-92 plastic package. It is a transistor with good features and electrical characteristics that makes it suitable to use in a wide variety of general purpose applications. It is mainly designed to use in low frequency power amplifiers and general switching. But it is not limited to these uses and can also be used for other applications.
Looking at the maximum ratings of the transistor the max collector-emitter voltage (VCEO) of the transistor is 30V, max collector-base voltage(VCBO) is 35V, max emitter-base voltage(VEBO) is 5V, max collector current is 80mA and max collector power dissipation is 600mW.
The electrical characteristics of the transistor are DC current gain of 100-320, transition frequency is 120MHz, Output capacitance is 13pF, max collector-emitter saturation voltage is 0.5V, and collector cur off current is 100nA.
This transistor is available in two different versions according to hFE classification. Each version contains a single letter after the part number due to which we can determine the DC current gain or hFE of that transistor. If that letter is “O” then the hFE will be 100-200 and if that letter is “Y” then the hFE will be 160-320.
Where We Can Use it & How to Use
C3203 transistor is designed to use in low frequency power amplifiers and switching circuits. But as we have mentioned above it is not limited to only these uses or applications and can be used in a variety of other applications such as RF circuits around 100MHz, audio preamplifier circuits, and variety of general purpose applications. The detailed list of its applications can be found under the “Applications” heading below. Using procedure of this transistor is the same as we use any other BJT transistor.
Applications
Audio amplifier circuits
RF circuits around 100MHz
Audio preamplifier circuits
Switching circuits
Driver Circuits
Darlington pairs
Communication circuits
And variety of other general purpose applications.
Safe Operating Guidelines
To get long term performance with the transistor it is essential to operate it safely by not driving it to its absolute maximum limits or ratings and it is suggested to use it at least 20% below from its max ratings. So according to this rule, we will minus the 20% from its max ratings to get the actual limit of how much load we can put on it so it will run smoothly in the long run without getting weakening or damage. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 800mA therefore we will not put a load of more than 640mA, the maximum collector-emitter voltage is 30V, therefore, will not supply more than 24V to the load we are driving through this transistor, and for the storage and operating temperature of the transistor we have to maintain it between -55°C to 150°C.
