BD236 Transistor Explained / Description:
BD236 is a PNP transistor designed to use in amplification and switching applications, it is available in TO-126 package and the pin layout of the transistor is the first pin is “Emitter”, second pin is “Collector” and the third pin is “Base”. BD236 is the transistor of BD23x series which also contains other transistors such as BD234 and BD238. The main different in these transistors are their (VCBO), (VCEO), (VCER), (VCEO (SUS)) and (ICBO) but you can easily replace them with each other if your circuit requirement in below 45V. There is also a complimentary NPN series of this transistor is available which contains BD233, BD235 and BD237.
The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are its collector-base voltage (VCBO), is -60V, max collector-emitter voltage is also 60V, max collector emitter voltage (VCER) is also -60V, emitter-base voltage is -5V, collector current is -2A and collector dissipation is 25W.
Where We Can Use it & How to Use:
BD236 can be used in amplifier and switching applications but can also be used in variety of other general purpose applications such as power supplies, battery circuits etc. As regarding to the using of the transistor it can be used or operated same as we use other BJT transistors.
Applications:
Battery charger circuits

Variety of General Purpose Applications
Safe Operating Guidelines:
Here are some important safe operating guidelines to get good performance.
- Do not use the transistor to its absolute and maximum and always stay 20% below.
- So the maximum collector current is -2A but we will not use more than 1.6A.
- The maximum voltage to drive the load is 50V minimum.
- Therefore the maximum collector-emitter voltage is 60V but we should not drive load of more than 50V.
- The maximum collector current is 2A so we should not drive load of more than 1.6A.
- The maximum temperature should be between -55°C to 150°C.
