BD4033 Transistor Explained / Description:

2N4033 is a PNP metal can transistor available in TO-39 metal can package. It is a transistor of the 2N403x series and the other transistors of the series are 2N4030, 2N4031, and 2N4032. The transistor features good current gain that is from 100 to 300, low saturation voltage, 1A output current and transition frequency of upto 150MHz. These features and other good electrical characteristics of the transistor makes it ideal to be used in variety of electronics applications.

The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are:

The Max collector-emitter voltage is -80V, max collector current is -1A, max collector-base voltage is -5V, max power dissipation is 0.8W and max storage and operating junction temperature range is from -65°C to +200°C.

The transistor is designed to be used as a general purpose small signal amplifier but due to its good electrical characteristics, it can also be used in a variety of other general purpose applications.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

As discussed above it is designed to be used in general purpose AF amplifier circuits but it is not limited to this and can also be used in other applications such as RF circuits, switching circuits etc. Regarding to its using procedure it is a BJT transistor so it has not any special using procedure it can be used as we use other BJT transistors.

Applications:

General purpose amplifiers

Radio and RF Applications

LED Driver Circuits

Oscillator Circuits

Audio amplifier and other audio related applications

Switching and Driving Loads

Any general purpose applications that falls under its ratings

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Here are some safe operating guidelines to use the transistor.

  • To safely operate the transistor do not use it to its absolute maximum ratings and always stay 20% below from these ratings.
  • The maximum collector current of the transistor is -1A so according to the guideline above we will only use 800mA.
  • The maximum collector-emitter voltage is -80V but we will only drive loads under 64V.
  • Max power dissipation should be under 0.8W.
  • A suitable heatsink should be used always.
  • The inner and outer temperature of the transistor should be between -65°C above +200 °C.
