2N4037 Transistor Explained / Description:

2N4037 is a PNP transistor available in TO-39 package. Looking at the absolute maximum ratings of the transistor the continuous collector current is 1A, collector-emitter voltage is 40V, emitter-base voltage is 7V, base current is 0.5A, continuous power dissipation is 5W and operating and junction temperature is from -65°C to +200°C.

The absolute maximum ratings are the last survival limits ratings of the transistor so it is always better to stay below from these ratings. We suggest to stay at least 20% below from these max ratings.

The transistor is mainly designed to be used in amplifier and switching applications but it doesn’t mean it cannot be used in other applications you can also try it in other general applications that falls under its ratings limits.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

As mentioned above this transistor is designed to be used in amplifier and switching applications but can also be used in variety of other general purpose applications that fall under its absolute maximum ratings and electrical characteristics. Additionally, regarding to how use the transistor, since it’s a BJT the method of use is same as we use any other BJT.

Applications:

General purpose amplifiers

Oscillator Circuits

LED Driver Circuits

Switching and Driving Loads

Audio amplifier and other audio related applications

Any general purpose applications that falls under its ratings

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Here are some safe operating guidelines to use the transistor.

  • Do not use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings.
  • The maximum collector current of the transistor is -1A so stay atleast 20% below by driving a load not more than 800mA.
  • Maximum collector-emitter voltage is -80V but same as above we will use 80% of the total limit which will be -64V.
  • Max power dissipation should be under 5W.
  • A suitable heatsink is essential to use always.
  • The maximum and minimum temperature of the transistor should be between -65°C to +200 °C.
