BC182 Transistor Explained / Description:

BC182 is a TO-92 package general purpose NPN transistor designed to use in general purpose applications. The transistor has many features which makes it ideal to use in wide variety of switching, amplification, and other uses.

Some of its features are as follows:

The collector-emitter voltage of 50V makes it capable to drive load of upto 50V, the DC current gain of 125 to 500 makes it ideal to use in applications like audio preamplifiers, amplifying any kind of weak signals, sensitive switches where the base current is small etc., the noise figure of typical 2dB to 10dB makes it a suitable device that require low interference like in RF and audio circuits due to which it will perform well in RF and audio applications. So all these good features make it a good candidate for a wide variety of applications and a must have transistor in your electronics lab.

 

How to Use This Transistor:

It is a BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor) so the procedure is same as you use any other BJT transistor for switching and amplification purposes.

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Here are some guidelines for safe operation of the transistor.

  • Always use 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings.
  • Therefore the maximum collector-emitter voltage is 50V but we will only use maximum 40V.
  • The maximum collector current is 100mA but we will not drive load of more than 80mA
  • Check pinout before replacing it or placing in a new circuit.
  • To safely operate the transistor it is important to not use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and always stay atleast 20% below these ratings.
  • So according to the above 20% rule, the maximum collector current is -2A but we will only use -1.6A.
  • The maximum collector-emitter voltage is -20V but we will not use more than 16V.
  • Always check the pinout before replacing or using it in a circuit.
  • The minimum and maximum storage and operating temperature should not exceed this limit: -55°C to 150°C.
