2SC2236 Transistor Explained / Description:

2SC2236 is a TO-92MOD package NPN transistor designed for audio power amplifier applications, but due to its good electrical characterIstics this transistor can also be used in variety of other applications. Some of its good features are high collector current, upto 120MHz transition frequency, good collector power dissipation and availability of its PNP complimentary.

Looking at the pin layout of the transistor when looking from the front (part number side) the first pin at the left is Emitter, second pin in the middle is Collector and the third pin at the left is Base.

The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are as follows:

The collector-emitter voltage is 30V, collector current is 1.5A, collector-base voltage is also 30V, emitter-base voltage is 5V, base current is 0.15A, collector power dissipation is 900mW, junction temperature is 150°C and storage temperature is -55°C to 150°C.

How to Use This Transistor:

This transistor is not only used for audio power amplifier but can also be used as a switch and other applications. Here is a basic detail about how this transistor can be used as a switch and amplifier.

To use it as a switch connect the emitter pin with the negative rail of the circuit, apply signal to its base through a suitable resistor (Resistor values from 1K to 10K can be used) and connect the output load between collector pin and the positive rail of the circuit.

For using it as an amplifier we are mentioning a simple amplifier circuit here that is used at the output of electronic bells and other small musical equipment. For doing so connect its emitter pin with the negative rail of the circuit, apply signals to its base through an electrolytic capacitor (Use any value from 1uF to 10uF) and connect the speaker between the collector pin and the positive rail of the circuit.

Applications:

Audio Power Amplifier Circuits

Audio Amplifier Circuits

Audio Preamplifier Circuits

RF Applications

Switching Applications

Darlington Pairs

Signal Amplification

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Follow these guidelines to safely operate the transistor:

  • To get good performance with the transistor it is suggested to not use it on its absolute max ratings and always stay at least 20% below from these ratings.
  • Always check pin layout before placing in the circuit or when designing the circuit.
  • Storage and operating temperature should be between -55°C to 150°C.
