BD249 A/B/C Transistor Explained / Description:
BD249 is a NPN power transistor available in TO-3PN package. It is designed for general purpose switching and amplifier applications. The transistor is available in 4 different variations which are slightly different from each other in their collector-emitter and collector-base voltage. Moreover, BD249 A/B/C also contains some good features such as high collector-emitter voltage, high collector current, upto 125W case termperature etc.
The absolute maximum ratings of these transistors are as follows:
The collector-emitter voltage is 45V (BD249), 60V (BD249A), 80V (BD249B), 100V (BD249), collector-base voltage is 55V (BD249), 70V (BD249A), 90V (BD249B), 115V (BD249), the emitter-base voltage is 5V for all versions or variations, the collector current is 25A for all, base current is 5A for all, collector power dissipation is 125W, junction and storage temperature is -65°C to +150°C.
As mentioned above this transistor is designed to be used in switching and amplifier applications but can also be used in variety of other applications such as battery chargers, power supplies, voltage converter etc.
How to Use This Transistor:
Using procedure of the transistor is same as we use other NPN transistor by applying signals on its base, connecting its emitter with the negative rail of the circuit and getting amplified output from collector pin.
Applications:
Audio Amplifier Circuits
Audio Amplifier Stages
Radio Frequency Circuits
Darlington Pairs
Variety of General Purpose Applications
Safe Operating Guidelines:
Safe operating guidelines for the transistor are:
- Do not use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and always stay at least 20% below form its max ratings.
- Always check pin layout before using in your circuit.
- Do not expose to temperature below -65°C and above 150°C.
