BC320 Transistor Explained / Description:

BC320 is a PNP transistor designed to be used in direct coupled circuits and small signal audio frequency amplifier stages. But due to its good specs the transistor can be used in variety of other applications.

It is a transistor of a series which contains many other transistors such as BC321, BC322, BC307, BC308, BC309, BC275 and others.

BC320 transistor has many good features such as 800 of DC current gain. Transition frequency of up to 180MHz, availability of its complimentary transistor, noise figure of 2 to 6 dB etc.

Looking at the absolute maximum ratings of the transistor the collector-emitter voltage is -45V, collector base voltage is -50V, collector current is 100ma, emitter-base voltage is -5V, collector dissipation is 300mW and max storage and operating temperature is -55°C to 150°C.

BC320 is available in and other transistors of the series are available in three different hFE classifications such as the current gain of BC320 is 110 to 800, BC320A is 110 to 220, BC320B is 200 to 450 and BC320C is 420 to 800.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

BC320 can be used in direct coupled circuits and small signal audio frequency amplifier stages. But due to its good specs the transistor can be used in variety of other applications. The detailed list of its applications cab found under the “Applications” heading below.

The Using procedure is same as we use any other BJT transistor.

Applications:

RF Circuits

Audio amplifier circuits

Sensor Circuits

Signal Amplification Circuits

Audio Preamplifier Circuits

Darlington Pairs

Audio Amplifier Stages

Switching Loads under 100mA

Active Filters

Switching Loads under 100mA

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Here are some safe operating guideline for the transistor.

  • Always use the transistor 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings.
  • The maximum collector current is 100mA but after following the above 20% below usage guideline we will only use 80% of the total current that is 80mA.
  • Also apply same 20% rule to collector-emitter voltage. The maximum voltage is -45V but we will not drive load under Rs.60.
  • The maximum storage and operating temperature should always be between -55°C to 150°C.
