BC369 Transistor Explained / Description:

BC369 is a PNP transistor available in TO-92 package. One of a very good features of this transistor is the maximum collector current of -2A which is quite interesting in a small package. Moreover, there are also other good features such as DC current gain of 50 to 375, transition frequency of 45MHz, availability of complimentary NPN transistor, and total device dissipation of 625mW. All these features make this transistor an ideal general purpose transistor to be used in high current load of upto -2A and variety of other applications. But some manufacturers also manufacture it in -1.5A collector current so it is important to confirm it before purchase.

The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are maximum collector current of -2A, max emitter-base voltage is -5V, collector-base voltage is -25V, collector-emitter voltage is -20V, total device dissipation is 625mW and max storage and operating temperature is -55°C to 150°C.

This transistor can be used in wide variety of general purpose applications, the detailed list its applications can be found under the “Applications” heading below.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

This transistor can be used in variety of different switching circuits, audio circuits, charger circuits etc.

It is a BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor) so the using procedure is same as you use any other BJT transistor for switching and amplification purposes.

Applications:

Microphone Circuits

Audio Amplifier Circuits

Audio Amplifier Stages

Darlington Pairs

Battery Charger Circuits

Automotive Circuits

Motor Driver Circuits

Solar Circuits

Switching Loads under 2A

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Here are some safe operating guidelines for the transistor.

  • To safely operate the transistor it is important to not use the transistor to its absolute maximum ratings and always stay at least 20% below from these ratings.
  • So according to the above 20% rule, the maximum collector current is -2A but we will only use -1.6A.
  • The maximum collector-emitter voltage is -20V but we will not use more than 16V.
  • Always check pinout before using or replacing in the circuit.
  • The maximum storage and operating temperature limit is from -55°C to 150°C.
