BD135 Transistor Explained / Description

BD135 is one of the transistors of the popular BD series in which you will also find other widely used transistor such as BD131, BD137, BD139 and their PNP compliments. BD135 is also a widely used transistor due to its variety of useful features. The collector current of upto 1.5A and max collector dissipation 12.5 Watt makes this transistor a very useful device to use in wide variety of switching and amplification purposes.

When used as a switch it will be able to drive loads upto 1.5A that means we can control a variety of components with this transistor in our electronic circuits. For example you can drive high power LEDs, relays, high power transistors and many other components in an electronic circuit. As mentioned above it can also be used as an amplifier for audio and other types of signal amplification.

Moreover it is also an ideal transistor to be used at the output of microcontrollers and other ICs which has low current at their outputs.

DC Current Gain

BD135 is manufactured in three different gain values that can be determined with the last digit written after the transistor number. for example BD135-6 gain will be 40-100, BD135-10 gain will be 63-160 and BD135-16 gain will be 100-250.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use

BD135 transistor can be used in commercial appliances as well as in educational and hobby electronic circuits. It can be used in wide variety of general purpose applications for example you can use it as a switch or driver to control variety of loads under 1500mA. On the other hand it can be used at the output of an audio amplifier or in stages. Moreover it can also be used to amplify other electronic signals in circuits.

Applications

Audio & Other Signal Amplification

Driving & Switching Loads under 1.5A

Motor Driver Circuits

Battery Charger Circuits

Power Supply Circuits

Darlington Pairs

How to Get Long Term Performance in a Circuit

To get long term performance with this transistor it is recommended to not drive load with the transistor that is higher than 1.5A and require more than 45V. Always use a suitable heatsink when driving loads more than 200mA. Always use a suitable base resistor with it and do not store or operate the transistor in temperature below -55 degree Celsius and above +150 degree Celsius.
