IRF740 MOSFET Explained / Description
IRF740 is a high voltage N channel MOSFET, the transistor is basically designed for high voltage and high speed switching applications. The max load voltage this transistor can drive is upto 400V with the maximum load current of 10A. The maximum current in pulse mode is 40A and the on-resistance or (RDS) is 0.55 ohms.
The max drain to source voltage of 400V makes it ideal to drive variety of high voltage loads in electronic circuits.
IRF740 can also work as an amplifier and it can be used in many types of audio amplifier circuits.
Where We Can Use it & How to Use
IRF740 can be used in circuits in which you want to drive voltage load of upto 400V with 10A load current. Also the high speed switching capability makes it suitable in applications where user requires switching from one source to another in nanoseconds.
The 400V load capability makes it suitable to use in variety of high voltage applications such as uninterrupted power supplies, LED and other light ballasts etc.
Moreover this transistor can also be used in audio amplifier circuit stages and also as a separate audio amplifier.
Applications
Applications that requires fast switching
High voltage applications
AC motor drivers and controllers applications
DC Motor drivers and controllers applications
UPS
Battery charger circuits
Lighting and ballast circuits
How to Get Long Life Performance
For long life performance of a component it’s important to not use a component on its maximum ratings and always use it atleast 20% below from its max ratings, therefore same goes with IRF740 MOSFET. The maximum continuous drain current is 10A therefore do not drive load of more than 8A. The max drain to source voltage is 400V thus do not drive load of more than 320V. Where ever in operation use a suitable heatsink with the transistor and always store and operate this transistor in temperature above -55 degree Celsius and below +150 Celsius.
