KSC1845 Transistor Explained / Description:

KSA992 is a high gain and low noise PNP transistor available in TO-92 package. The transistor is having quite good specs such as up to -120V collector to base voltage, collector power dissipation is upto 500mW, 50 to 100MHZ transition frequency, DC current gain of upto 800, max noise voltage is 40mV etc.

The transistor is primarily designed for low noise audio frequency amplification but due to its good specs it can also be used in wide variety of other applications such as any type of low gain signal amplification in electronics.

The device comes in three different hFE classifications that can be determined by the first alphabet after its part number. If that alphabet is “P” than its DC current gain will be from 200 to 400, if the alphabet is “F” then the gain value will be 300 to 600 and if “E” then it will be 400 to 800.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

As discussed above the transistor is primarily designed for low noise audio frequency amplification but it is not only limited to this use and can also be used for many other applications such as any type of low noise signal amplification in electronics. The maximum transition frequency of the transistor is upto 100MHz due to which it can also be used in radio and RF applications around 100MHz. Moreover the maximum collector to emitter voltage of -120V also makes it ideal to use in high voltage circuits.

Applications:

Low Noise Audio Amplification

Radio and RF Applications

Audio Preamplifiers

Low Gain Signal Amplification

Switching Load Under 50mA

Safe Operating Guidelines / Absolute Maximum Ratings:

Please follow these safety guidelines when using this transistor:

We recommend using all the transistors atleast 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings and hence same applies to KSA992 transistor. The max collector current is -50mA therefore do not drive load of more than 40mA. The maximum collector to emitter voltage is -120V therefore do not drive load of more than -96V and always store or operate the transistor at temperatures above -55°C and below +150 °C.
