It can be used in Comparators
DC amplifiers can be built using this IC
It can also be used in summing amplifiers
Can be used in multi vibrator circuits
Active filters can be built using this IC
Replacement / Equivalent / Other Part Numbers:
MC1439, LM748, LM709C, LM201
Application Circuits :
There are two circuits show below using the LM741 IC. This first circuit is a light sensor and the second is dark sensor circuit.
Light Sensor Circuit
This light sensor circuit shown below is using LM741 IC as a multivibrator in the circuit. the 120K variable resistor is used to adjust the sensitivity or activation point of the LED. The circuit is using an LDR sensor to sense light. The LED will become activate when the light level on the LDR will reach the preset level set by the 120K variable resistor. The operating voltage of the is 9V DC.
Dark Sensor Circuit
As in the above circuit the lm741 is also used in this dark sensor circuit in astable multivibrator mode but this time, for detecting darkness the middle pin of the variable resistor is connected with pin three / non inverting input of the IC. Now the LED will become activated when the level or darkness on the surface of the LDR will reach at the preset level set by the 120K variable resistor in the circuit. The power supply of this circuit is also 9V.
How to Get Good and Stable Long Term Performance from this IC:
To get long term good performance from ICs it is suggested to always stays under its maximum ratings. To safely run lm741 IC for long term in your projects / devices do not apply load more than 500mW. Do not apply more than ±22V to the chip and the minimum operating voltage should be ±10V.For good performance always decouple power supplies by using a 0.1uF capacitor and place it as near as possible to the IC in your circuit. Always store and use the IC under -55 centigrade and +125 centigrade.
