MJE15031 Transistor Explained / Description:

MJE15031 is a TO-220 package PNP transistor designed to be used in in high frequency drivers in audio amplification circuits. The transistor has many good features such as upto -150V of collector-emitter voltage, up -8A of collector current, transition frequency of 30MHz, availability of its complimentary transistor etc.

Looking at the pinout of the transistor the first pin of the transistor is Emitter, second pin is Collector which is also connected to its mounting base or tab, and the third pin is Base.

The absolute maximum ratings of the transistor are as follows: The collector-emitter voltage is -150V, collector-base voltage is -150V, emitter-base voltage is -5V, base current is -2A, collector current is -8A, peak collector current is -16A, total power dissipation is 50W, storage temperature is from -65 °C to 150°C and junction temperature is 150°C.

Where We Can Use it & How to Use:

MJE15031 is designed to be used in high frequency drivers in audio amps but can also be used in other applications such as power supplies, controller, telecommunication, inverters, lighting systems etc.

Using procedure of the transistor is same as we use other BJT transistors.

Applications:

Battery Charger Circuits

Audio Amplifiers

Voltage regulators

Motor Driver Circuits

Power Supplies

DC-DC Converters

Lighting Control Circuits

Safe Operating Guidelines:

Here are the safe operating guidelines of the transistor.

  • Use the transistor at least 20% below from its absolute maximum ratings in your circuits
  • So by following the above discussed 20% rule we will use only -6.4A from the -8A of maximum collector current of the transistor.
  • The maximum collector-emitter voltage is -150V
  • So the maximum collector current of the transistor is 8A but according the above 20% rule we will only use 6.4A.
  • Same as the maximum collector-emitter voltage is 150V but we will not drive load of more than 120V.
  • Always use heatsink with the transistor.
  • Make sure the storage and operating temperature will be between 65°C to 150°C.
