MPSA06 Transistor Explained / Description:
MPSA06 is a general purpose NPN BJT transistor available in TO-92 package and also in SOT-23 and SOT-223 by some manufacturers. The transistor have quite interesting specs to use as a general purpose transistor and it can be used in variety of general purpose switching and amplification purposes in electronic circuits. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 500mA or 0.5A due to which it can be used to switch a wide variety of loads that falls under 0.5A. The maximum collector to emitter voltage is 80V thus this transistor can drive load of upto 80V. The minimum collector to emitter voltage of the transistor is only 0.25V which is also an ideal saturation voltage if you want to use this transistor as a switch. To drive a 100mA load the required base current of this transistor should be 10mA with 0.25V and to drive a 500mA load current of 50mA should be fed to the base of the transistor.
Moreover the maximum collector dissipation of 625mW and DC current gain of 100 also makes it capable to use as an amplifier for different type of signal amplifications in electronic circuits.
Where We Can Use it & How to Use:
As described above MPSA06 is a general purpose transistor and it can be used in wide variety of applications that falls under its specifications. If used as a switch it can drive loads of upto 500mA for example relays, LEDs, high power transistors, ICs, part of a circuit etc. On the other hand it can also be used an amplifier in audio amplifier circuits and also for other electronic signal amplifications. The transition frequency of the transistor is 100MHz therefore it can also be used in RF circuits under 100MHz.
Applications:
Switching loads under 500mA
Darlington pairs
Audio and other signal amplifications
Telecommunication and computer circuits
Radio Frequency Applications
Any general purpose application
How to Safely Long Run in a Circuit:
To get long terms performance from a component we always suggest using the device at least 20% below from its maximum ratings, and same goes with MPSA06 transistor. The maximum collector current of the transistor is 500mA therefore do not drive load of more than 400mA and the maximum load voltage should be under 64V. Do not store or operate the transistor in temperature below -55 degree centigrade and above +150 degree centigrade and always use a suitable base resistor with the transistor.
